The Mississauga Symphony Orchestra Wraps Up Another Stellar Season With The Planets Performance
This Saturday, May 27, the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra will be your guide through the solar system as they perform The Planets, an epic seven movement orchestral suite composed by Gustav Holst. This is a perfect concert to conclude a stellar 2022/2023 concert season!
Written between 1914-1916, The Planets represents all the known planets of the Solar System seen from Earth at the time, and their corresponding astrological character. The concept of the work is based not on the Roman deities that they may relate to, but the influence of the planets on the psyche, which consequently makes this work astrological, not astronomical. From the ominous sounds of Mars, the Bringer of War to the majesty of Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, The Planets is full of instantly recognizable music.
