Learn about the Cuvée Grand Tasting – an annual celebration of Ontario’s VQA wines
[PRESENTED BY WINERIES OF NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE]
Ontario’s largest celebration of VQA wines is only a few weeks away. The 31st annual Cuvée Grand Tasting will take place on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls. Hosted by Brock University’s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute, the event showcases VQA wines to consumers while supporting the growth of the Ontario grape and wine industry. Proceeds from the event support the Cuvée Legacy Fund which helps fund industry-driven research and student scholarships.
This year’s Grand Tasting will feature over 100 carefully selected VQA wines from 48 Ontario wineries. The wines being poured are particularly special as they are the Winemakers’ personal favourites. Guests will be able to sample these VQA wines along with sample signature dishes created by renowned local chefs at 12 live cooking stations.
The Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake will be very well represented at this year’s Grand Tasting as 18 of our member wineries will be pouring their wines that evening: Château des Charmes, Inniskillin Wines, Jackson-Triggs Niagara Estate Winery, Konzelmann Estate Winery, Marynissen Estates Winery, Niagara College Teaching Winery, Palatine Hills Estate Winery, Peller Estates Winery, Pillitteri Estates Winery, Pondview Estates Winery, Queenston Mile Vineyard, Reif Estate Winery, Riverview Cellars Estate Winery, Southbrook Vineyards, The Hare Wine Co., The Lakeview Wine Co., Trius Winery, Wayne Gretzky Estate Winery. Be sure to visit their stations and discover some of the outstanding VQA wines produced in the Niagara-on-the-Lake appellation. To find out which gems have been hand-picked by the winemakers you will have to attend the grand tasting as the wines will only be revealed that evening. It certainly adds to the anticipation but luckily the wait is almost over.
Following the Grand Tasting is the Après Cuvée Party where guests can dance the night away to live music and enjoy sparkling wine, Icewine, local craft beers and ciders. Also included with the Grand Tasting ticket is a Passport for Cuvée En Route. This allows ticket holders to visit any of the 35+ participating wineries throughout the weekend (March 22 to 24) for exclusive tasting flights of specially selected wines. While the Cuvée En Route Passport is included with the Grand Tasting ticket it can also be purchased separately.
