Modern Motoring - A video review of the 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF
For 2017, Mazda's taken it's beloved MX-5 (Miata for those that remember it's previous name) and given it a retractable fastback, or hard top convertible, for those unfamiliar with the term.
Having recently sold its millionth model, Mazda's mini roadster has more than a cult following and there are more and more appearing on our roads.
Spec wise, the engine remains the same with a 2.0L four cylinder engine that comes in either a 6-speed manual (my preference) or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Output is 155 horsepower and 148 lb-ft. of torque and Mazda recommends premium fuel to fill its 45 litre tank.
The week I had the car was certainly enjoyable as I had the top down as much as possible during July and it certainly turned a few heads both on the road and in parking lots.
Pricing starts at $38,800 for the GS trim and my GT trim starts at $42,200.
My tester had the $3,800 Grand Sport package, which added on Contrasting top in piano black, Nappa leather, Brembo® front brakes (opposed piston design/unique rotor), red calipers front and rear, 17-inch BBS® forged alloy wheels (dark finish), power exterior mirrors in piano black.
